The Bedroom Botanical Tearoom: 13 Days With Covid

May 17, 2020

Happy Sunday friends wherever you are 💛 I saw an image last week of a cut up lemon, the centre pulp was minuscule, almost invisible. The caption read ‘when life throws you lemons - 2020’. I know this lockdown has been incredibly hard for some and it can be hard to see the goodness in it when the darkness is so overwhelming.

David cries out in Psalm 143 “Hurry with your answer, God! I’m nearly at the end of my rope.”

Maybe this is how you’re feeling today? We’re on Day 13 here in the Wakelam house of my hubby having Covid-19 and thankfully he’s finally turning the corner. Thankfully also the rest of us are aren’t showing any symptoms. We’ve had the paramedics sent out on one occasion and had to call them again again couple of nights ago. Lemons 🍋

Our neighbours and friends have been wonderful in rallying to drop off essentials, we’ve had sweet cards and beautiful flowers sent and numerous messages of support and people’s prayers. There are many bright moments in the middle of the shadowed place.

Did you know God listens to our 'throw away' prayers? They’re the kind where you overhear your child or friend talking about something they like or would enjoy having and you take note and secretly plan to surprise them with it? Last week I was lamenting not being able to go to the shops and buy some flowers, I wanted to photograph them and have a creative outlet in the middle of caring for everyone. The next day my neighbour left these beautiful tulips on the doorstep along with butter and cinnamon, good neighbour huh! It did my heart so good to be able to set up a shoot in my bedroom and share some beauty this way.

Sometimes we feel at the end of our rope, we wonder how we can go on especially when it’s so monotonous and appears like there’s no end in sight. But God is listening, He knows where we’re at and what we need, also what we would love. He will answer you, not always when or how we expect but He will. Maybe you can be the answer to someone else’s prayer today by doing something small and kind. Imagine how they’ll feel when you take them tea in bed or send a note of hello. My daughter Zoe surprised me yesterday with the most delightful afternoon tea in her room. I’ve named her room the Bedroom Botanical Tearoom, isn’t it exquisite.

I love David’s Psalms, they give such permission to be emotional while always bring you back to hope. David goes on to say ,”Cause me to hear Your lovingkindness in the morning, For in You do I trust; Cause me to know the way in which I should walk, For I lift up my soul to You.”

So my prayer for you is that you hear or see His lovingkindness in some small way today, a glimpse of the fingerprints of God in the everyday ordinariness or broken places as you lift up your soul to Him ❤️

Also, music is such a big part of my life as I'm sure it is for you, it's the soundtrack of our journey isn't it? If you'd like to follow me on Spotify you can now do so. I've created a May Lockdown playlist which I add to often.
