Happy Friday everyone! Yes it is Friday I think. How are you all doing? Did you watch last week's debut episode of The Quarantine Diaries yet? We are navigating our days each as they come but with a skeletal outline of some fun novelty themes in the evenings. Last Saturday our daughter Zoe chose a family movie (Hotel Transylvania 2) and decorated to that theme, she also baked some lemon cupcakes as a treat, she makes ordinary days special that's for sure. Choosing some novelty has been a breath of fresh air and having a flexible outline has provided structure but also anchoring rhythms for our week. This Sunday we're playing Bingo via Zoom (Zingo I'm calling it!) with our close neighbours, I'll let you know how that turns out. I've attached our weekly planner here, share with us what ideas your family comes up with, we'd love to hear them.
So on today's thrilling instalment Jennie and I are talking about how we can nurture our hearts in difficult days and what that looks like practically. You can watch it here:
We mention a few books and resources too which I'll list and link below if you're interested.
Here also are some anchoring scriptures to cultivate your flourishing heart.
I shocked Jennie with my Boney M reference, I hadn't mentioned it before we hit record. If you need cheering up go have a look at these awesome outfits!
My son, let them not depart from your eyes—
Keep sound wisdom and discretion;
So they will be life to your soul
And grace to your neck.
Then you will walk safely in your way,
And your foot will not stumble.
When you lie down, you will not be afraid;
Yes, you will lie down and your sleep will be sweet.
Do not be afraid of sudden terror,
Nor of trouble from the wicked when it comes;
For the Lord will be your confidence,
And will keep your foot from being caught.
God is our refuge and strength,
A very present help in trouble.
Therefore we will not fear,
Even though the earth be removed,
And though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea;
Lord, my heart is not haughty,
Nor my eyes lofty.
Neither do I concern myself with great matters,
Nor with things too profound for me.
Surely I have calmed and quieted my soul,
Like a weaned child with his mother;
Like a weaned child is my soul within me.
O Israel, hope in the Lord
From this time forth and forever.
Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things.
